Tamilnadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University (TNJFU) is the 20th university in Tamil Nadu, founded in 2012 in Nagapattinam, Nagapattinam district. It was established under Tamil Nadu Fisheries University Act, 2012. The Department of Fisheries was started in the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) during 1973. The Fisheries College, Thoothukudi was established in 1977 and the first batch of students for B.F.Sc., programme were admitted. The Fisheries College was upgraded as Fisheries College and Research Institute (FCRI) during the year 1989. Tamil Nadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University (TNJFU) is the State funded, unitary professional Fisheries University in India imparting education, research and training to enhance fish production and utilization by following the State Agricultural University (SAU) pattern and syllabi.Tamilnadu Dr. J.
